What is Christian Counseling?
Christian Counseling uses the Bible and it’s principles to help you deal with the struggles that might be preventing you from living a life of joy and contentment. I understand that there are varied reasons why you are struggling including your past, psychological and environmental issues as well as potential psychiatric and physical ailments that may be affecting your state of mind.

I want to address your struggles in a holistic way and believe that there are proven Biblical guidelines that can be applied to help you deal with whatever it is you are going through. My goal is to help you look at your past in a new way and understand that your identity is grounded in who God has made you to be-a unique and valuable person in His sight.

Are you licensed?
I am not licensed by the State of Iowa due to the nature of the degrees and certifications that we have pursued in our professional careers. Lori Hommer has a Master degree in Christian Counseling. I sought my training through seminary and or Christian resources in order to work with those who are Christ followers and want the kind of counseling and guidance that I believe God’s Word provides for all of us.

What are the fees?
We offer competitive rates with a variety of options.
For specific fee schedules please see Counseling Services.

What is the process of Christian Counseling?
Before your first appointment you will be e-mailed a Personal History Form or a Marriage Intake Form to fill out. This form will be reviewed during your first appointment where you and Lori Hommer will discuss your counseling options and set goals for future appointments.  Read what Counseling Clients are saying about their experience.

Payment will be expected at your first appointment. No billing is available.

What can we expect to get out of a counseling session?
• Review of your Intake Form
• Hearing your story and understanding your expectations for counseling
• Understanding what solutions you have tried so far and their effectiveness
• Understanding the options that Christian Counseling offers
• Setting goals and homework for future appointments
• Prayer (if agreeable to the client)

Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance as I am not licensed however low income rates are available and I strive to keep rates affordable. Please contact me if you have a specific hardship concerning fees.

Do you work with children?
I will work with children age 12 or older who have their parent’s or guardian’s written permission and with families who have children of any age.
I will happy to refer you to agencies that will work with younger children.

Do you prescribe medication?
I do not prescribe medications or do psychiatric, psychological or physical diagnosis. However I do ask to know what medications you are currently taking as they might have a bearing on your counseling experience. I gladly will work in partnership with any of your current doctors or professionals in order for you to have the best healing experience possible.

I will also gladly refer you to another professional who deals in psychiatric or psychological medications or diagnosis if it is something that becomes an apparent need during your counseling sessions.

Do you counsel couples?
Yes! Counseling is available for couples. This includes the following:
• Those pursuing engagement and engaged couples
• Pre-marital couples
• Couples in crisis or conflict
• Couples in transition (job, new born, empty nest, blended family etc.)
